You will discuss the professional development that you are asked to be involved in and how it helps/does not help you in your current role.
As an educator, I am involved in professional development activities so as develop and enhance the
knowledge and skills needed to address the different learning challenges faced by students (Reutzel,
2013). For instance, I often get involved in skill-based training and team-building activities as part of
professional development. Skill-based training is an approach to professional development that allows
the participants to learn new concepts, behaviors, and practices. Here, one gets to learn new conceptual
information and practices and then receives feedback on their performance from their supervisors
(Vanderlinde et al. 2021). On the other hand, team building is a form of professional development
whereby members collaboratively work on tasks. Team building helps in enhancing social interactions,
increases cohesiveness, and promotes efficiency. Through team-building team members get to easily
understand each other better and learn new ways of solving problems.
Engaging in these professional development activities has greatly helped me in my current role. Through
skill-based training, I am able to learn and improve on my knowledge and skills hence improving student
achievements in my school as I use the skills gained to boost the outcomes of my students. On the other
hand, team building helps in my current role as it works to motivate my workmates. By team building
developing their strengths and addressing their weaknesses, I am able to closely work together with
others as it teaches collaboration and cohesion (Reutzel, 2013). Therefore, I would say that the
professional development I get involved in helps me as an educator enhance my skills and ability to
address my students’ learning challenges hence improving their achievements and outcomes.
