Write an essay that tells a story, and reflects in some way on the importance of a past event in which food features in some way. Keep your essay focused on one memory of a specific food or meal. Use the Descriptive Writing skills covered in this unit (sensory description, figurative language). Your reader should be able to see, smell, hear, taste, the food through your descriptions. Your essay can be funny, sad, or moving. It is a personal essay, so don’t be afraid to use “I.” Most personal essay include some sort of reflection at the end that answers the “why?” question. What did you learn from this experience? Explore this in the conclusion. Use the essays by Amy Tan and Naomi Shihab Nye as inspiration.
