Many successful workers in aging services industry are called upon to assume managerial and leadership roles. Your readings for Week 8 discuss the distinction between management, leadership, and entrepreneurship. The readings also note that while the healthcare and aging services workforce is overwhelmingly female, women are underrepresented in positions of leadership.

2. What are some of the reasons that women are underrepresented in leadership positions within healthcare and aging services? What solutions can you think of that might change this?

3. What is an entrepreneur? What are some of the traits of an entrepreneur? What opportunities are there or will there be for entrepreneurs in the aging services industry?

4. After reading Chapter 21, see if you can answer the 4 questions related to career development:

  • What am I really best suited to do? Do I want to be a leader, a follower, a manager, an entrepreneur, or something else?
  • What’s available for me to do?
  • Where do I want to be in “x” years?
  • How do I get to where I want to be?
