The history of health has changed over time. In the 19th century health was viewed in basic terms as being free of disease (Falkner, 2018). Once sanitation was instituted in the 19th and 20th centuries, a new idea of prevention flourished. After 1948, health promotion grew to factors like physical, mental and spiritual (Falkner, 2018). Today health promotion measures are influencing our definition of what healthy really means, we focus our attention on disease prevention. The concept of health has evolved to focus on other factors besides disease. We now promote wellness and overall well-being by taking care of the whole person. Evidence based practice is very important in guiding our treatment plans as we continuously learn more and more about new information and new ways to prevent disease. As a science, the medical field is constantly looking to improve itself, we need to take that information and apply its implications to real people in the hospitals or clinics etc, nurses are at the forefront of change and wellness in society. We are responsible for achieving goals and improving our systems.
