The research paper is the last essay of the course, and it perhaps the most important. It
is important because it gives the students the key to the kingdom. If a student can select
a topic, gather copious materials, organize the topic into a coherent essay using quality
sources, and not having a bias, then that student can learn practically any subject which
is of interest.
Students will choose their own topic within the larger category that the class chose.
Students must get the approval of their topic from the instructor, and then decide on an
organizational structure for their essay and create an outline for their essay. Then two
rough drafts will be due before the final essay, so that student progress with the
research paper can be charted so that the students are working in a way that will make
them successful when turning in this essay assignment.
