The main writing assignment is a term paper in the form of a strategic plan with an emphasis on marketing and an evaluation component to satisfy the requirement of a major writing project. Identify/select an organization or program in the government, nonprofit, or healthcare sector on which the strategic planning and marketing research will be conducted. You are encouraged to use your career goal, work/life experience, and/or personal interest to make a case besides the common criteria for justifying a research topic (I have attached the documents). The paper should show familiarity with relevant policy documentation and practice/research literature bearing on your case. It should also demonstrate your ability to utilize strategic planning and marketing research methods to link organizational mission with unmet social needs, establish appropriate goals and objectives, specify and justify activities/steps to address priority needs and concerns, utilize research findings and best practices, and identify teams and other resources for the implementation and evaluation of the strategic and marketing plans. The paper/plan (3,500- 4,000 words, 1.5 spaced) requires your own, independent work including complete citation of all the references used (10 good bibliographic sources are required at the minimum and more is better; APA style is preferred). Keep the course learning objectives in mind. You may look for a good strategic and marketing plan as a sample of format and a target for professional rigor. Application of your learning and the quality of writing including analysis and synthesis, arguments/substantive points, citations and references, organization, use of tables and charts, grammar, spelling, and punctuation will all affect your grade. Note: The paper assignment has certain flexibility to allow you to develop a new or critique/improve an existing strategic planning and marketing proposal/process by referring to the above parameters and applying what you’re learning. You have a choice of going about a comprehensive, concrete strategic and marketing plan/proposal, or researching a particular aspect of the planning/marketing process in depth by utilizing all your research skills. Please use the milestones as a guide to track your own progress. A more extensive review of research and practical literature related to your topic will be helpful.
You will conduct a self-assessment of at least 800 words at the end of the paper in a different document, which is an opportunity for you to reflect on how this paper has helped to prepare you for involvement in strategic planning and marketing. Show the extensiveness of your reading, contribution to/learning from discussions, research efforts, gain from the writing and group exercises, major insights from all learning activities in the course (if not already shown in your paper), and relevance to your career goals.
