Assignment Directions

For this week’s assignment, you will write a personal, reflective response (much like a journal entry) on the topic of GRR (Gradual Release of Responsibility). Reflective writing is a great way to process what you’ve read and develop your understanding of the text. You are able to clarify your thoughts on what you have read or viewed, solidify your reactions to and opinions on the text, and organize your thoughts. As you respond, you will question, relate, and interpret information to gain new understandings. Be sure to reference the readings for this session in your response. Keep in mind that this type of writing is more informal than an essay. Some describe it as “stream of consciousness.”

As you’ve learned in this session, the gradual release of responsibility model of instruction stipulates that the teacher moves from assuming all the responsibility for performing a task to a situation in which the students assume all of the responsibility. For this personal, reflective writing, address each of the following:

Describe effective teacher behaviors that result in an independent student learner.

Describe the behavior of a student who has become an independent learner.

Follow the steps below to complete this assignment:

Create a new document of your choosing (Word, Google Docs, Open Office – anything that can be saved/exported to PDF format).

Compose a Reflective Writing Response addressing the two guiding thoughts listed above.
