Learning Goal: I’m working on a english discussion question and need an explanation and answer to help me learn.
Directions:
- Read the short essay on health misinformation (Links to an external site.), taking notes in the margins, and watch at least 20 minutes of the documentary film Trust Me (Links to an external site.), on the importance of media literacy and the prevalence of misinformation.
- Next, Write an original response or record a video where you address some of the following: (3 points)
- Describe which aspect(s) of the documentary and essay stood out to you most, and why?
- Discuss the dangers of misinformation to society in general, and to one or more more specific parts of society specifically. <— These more specific “parts” could be your major/field or subfields, or a subset of “society” you can think of, you’ve had experience with recently. Be sure to anchor* some of your discussion to either the essay or the documentary. (*cite in paraphrase or quote format, see below)
- Propose specific steps to take (as an individual, a class, a public sphere or society) to begin fixing the issue of misinformation. (Be more specific than “do your own research.”)
Finally, engage with your peers by Replying (2 points) to one or more posts that do not already have a response, extending the peer’s ideas or responding to them in some way. Aim for at least 50 words in your response (i.e. don’t just say “I totally agree, or good post.”).
Points: 5 points (3 for post, 2 for 1 or more peer responses)
