MODEL ANSWER
The student correctly identifies any of the DHS headquarters directorates or the seven operating agencies of the DHS. The student describes potential areas of cross jurisdiction or conflict/mission area overlap and provides supporting references and citations to support their position. Responsive posts should include compare and contrast of analysis made by other students with student’s own postings.
Instructor’s Comments:
This compare and contrast assignment again lends itself to presenting the information in a table or matrix. Therefore, do it and learn how to prepare proper tables and figures. If you do not do it, you will never learn how to prepare proper tables and figures. Do it!

This assignment lends itself for you to prepare a table to present your information. Follow the APA Manual Chapter 5 in preparing tables and figures. Follow these suggestions:
Tables and Figures
Regarding presenting a data table within your body text, if you are borrowing this tabular idea from another author, you should always give credit to the author from whence you borrowed the table (or figure, or graphics, or flowchart, or whatever). If you created such a tabular concept from your own mind, then you should explain why and how you devised the definition of the terms you use. Please see good examples on APA pp. 132, 134-137. Note exactly how you should give proper credit to the source document at the bottom of the table. Additionally, place the table number and caption (on two, separate lines of text) at the top of the table (but captions for figures go at the bottom of the figure).
Do your tables and figures in a san serif font (i.e., Arial [preferred], Verdana, Calibri, or Helvetica), not Times New Roman (TNR). Use 12-point TNR font only for the body text of your paper. Please see APA p. 161, section 5.25.
Do the text within the table/figure in 10-point Arial (preferred), Helvetica, Verdana, or Calibri. However, you may use as small as 8-point Arial, Helvetica, Verdana, or Calibri font for large tables that are space limited. Please see APA p. 161, section 5.25. I prefer 10-point Arial font for normal tables and figures.
Use only horizontal lines for tables, no vertical lines. For figures, place a box around the graphic. See examples of tables and figures in Chapter 5 of the APA Manual.
Please make your tables and figures as compact as possible without losing any visibility or clarity. Please single space between lines of text within tables.
Use B&W and various shades of gray for all of your tables and figures. Use colors only for specific reasons, not aesthetics. Specific reasons would include colors to represent different levels of risk, e.g., Red = High Risk, Yellow = Medium Risk, and Green = Low Risk.
Position your table or figure as soon as possible after you call it out in the paragraph before it. If possible, do not allow your table or figure to straddle over two pages. You should do that only if you have a long table that runs for more than a page in length.
