#5 Introduction to Mass Communication, Ch. 1 ( Student Response)

Each individual may have a different perspective of what media images, commercials, billboards, and the news are putting out. There are four pictures in this chapter one picture shows Homer Simpson snatching up his son Bart in an angry manner. In some cultures this is a normal way of disciplining, some would say there must be a reason for the father’s action, but an officer would say it is a form of abuse. As time has changed it is harder to discipline your children in the correct way due to the media. There is also a photo of  the game called ” Grand Theft Auto, “just the images and the name on the cover tells me that nothing positive is coming from this game to let alone buy it for my child , some would say it is ok to buy and don’t mind their children playing this game. This is what they know, rap videos, movies, video games, guns, violence and advertisement on how you should look which all influence adolescents of society. My granddaughter lives with me and she is 9 years old she recently ask me if she could wear makeup, I asked her why, she explained some show that all her friends are watching the girls on the show wear makeup. I explained to her that it is just a show and she is too young to wear that right now, the media has them growing up so fast but as she said some of the girls at her school are already wearing makeup.  The image that the media projects to females, without structure or someone there to explain to them it is ok being just who you are can actually cause damage

Going back and forth between Fox and CNN is what we call multiple points of access, giving you both sides of public issues. Way to go.
