Title:
Similarities and Differences between Leadership and Management

Section 1: Leadership

In this section students should write a short overview and discussion of what they
have learnt about leadership, management and team working. Their discussion
should focus on three central questions:

e@ What do ‘leadership’ and ‘management’ mean? — What are their
differences?

e@ What sort of a leader they are?

e@ What sort of a leader could they become or would wish to become?

To answer these questions, students should give some thought to the general theory
and discussions they have had in the classes, as well as their experience of the
practical tasks. This section can be ‘academic’ or it can be personal — one possibility is
that students could write it as a personal reflection on what they have learnt about
themselves as leaders, and how they would like to explore the ideas and issues
raised in the programme further for themselves. However, students are also
encouraged to reflect on questions such as ‘what is a good leader/manager?’, ‘how
does someone learn to become a leader?’, ‘what are the main challenges of
leadership?’, or perhaps any other questions they may wish to explore on this topic.

Section 2: Short reflections: most interesting and most challenging issues

This will include all the classes/tutorials of the week, although students may also
adopt briefly some elements of prior themes in their introductions. However, they

need to be careful to not to include any phrases or sentences that they have
already used for prior reports.
