Description

It’s hard to be creative without lots of material on hand—or in your brain. This week’s assignment focuses on filling up your brain with new ideas and experiences from every facet of life: history, art, movies, music, literature, photography, kids’ books, fashion, food, etc. The more you absorb, the more you have to pull from. Make it a point to watch, read, listen, eat, and drink as many new experiences as much as you can each week. Write down your new experiences, and what you gained from each.

For this journal assignment, you must participate in and document 10 new experiences during the module dates.

For each experience, answer these questions:

  • Who? (alone or with friends)
  • What? (a brief note on what the experience is: film title or a walk through a new neighborhood)
  • Where? (location)
  • When? (date and time of day)
  • Why? (describe your reaction, how it made you feel)

Use your senses as you describe your experiences. Each factor that you list will affect your experience—for example, the difference between walking through Times Square during the day or at night. Use photos or sketch something if you so desire.

Purpose

The purpose of this assignment is to develop the habit of immersing yourself in as many new experiences as possible. That way, you’ll have the raw material in your brain when you need it.
