Creative Writing Option. In 500-1000 words, tell the story of an epidemic (during our class’ time-range} from the perspective of someone who lived through it. There’s lots of options – Justinian’s Plague, The Bubonic Plague, Smallpox. The Spanish Flu, Swine Flu, Ebola, Cholera, etc. (choose one within your course time-frame] – you have lots of choices. You could do a first-person narrative, a stage-play, a memoir/letter—whatever works best for you and your writing style! Please attach a bibliography of sources used.
Things to consider when doing the creative option: – what sort of reactions would the illness have evoked? how would the epidemic make people feel and act? – what was the experience of being ill like? – what contemporary circumstances or experiences would the epidemic play into? – be •descriptive• – your character (s) don’t exist in a vacuum – so, from our readings and your research, consider the experiences of your character in a particular setting. Think about what they’re wearing, where they we, what they see, hear, etc. – finally, and perhaps most importantly, what do you want your reader to take from your narrative? Your last paper had to have a clear argument – 50 too this paper should have an argument beneath the story.
