How do you define military social work? Review the definition of military social work outlined in the CSWE guide and tell me how this

Learning Goal: I’m working on a writing discussion question and need an explanation and answer to help me learn.

Now that you are familiar with the MSW Direct Practice Competencies/Behaviors which you have been working on applying over the past two terms in the field, I would like for you to also become familiar with the military social work competencies/behaviors. I bet you didn’t realize there were additional CSWE competencies/behaviors for military social work, did you? In 2010, CSWE published a set of guidelines for educational competencies for advanced social work practice in military social work due to the urgent need to understand and engage with military service members, veterans, and their families.

Even if you are not planning to work directly with Military service members and their families, these competencies and behaviors are still important to understand. No matter what area of social work you pursue post-graduation, you will more than likely end up having a client who is tied to the military in some way.

Please review The CSWE Specialized Practice Curricular Guide for Military Social Work then answer the following questions:

  • How do you define military social work? Review the definition of military social work outlined in the CSWE guide and tell me how this definition differs from your personal definition. Do you agree with CSWE’s definition of military social work?
  • Identify each of the 9 military social work competencies. Summarize the specialized practice description as well as the competency behaviors for each.
  • Do you feel you have been able to meet some of these competencies during your practicum experience? If so, how and which ones? If not, how can you work on increasing your knowledge about military social work in order to work effectively with service members, veterans, and/or their families?

Please remember Discussion Board Posts are considered academic writing and will be evaluated as such. Please provide an extensively thought out, thorough response. Submissions that are posted hurriedly can be detected. So slow down, start early and take your time. When responding to your peers, please consider carefully whom you are responding to, why you are responding to that peer, and how you are responding. Make sure your responses are just as thought out and thorough as your original post.

————————————————————————————–

This assignment has 2 components: (1) Your Post after reviewing the above questions – submit a substantive post following the guiding questions or instructions. A substantive post addresses ALL the guiding questions thoroughly incorporating any assigned readings and posing thought-provoking questions to your peers. (2) Second, your response to at least one other post answering your colleague’s questions or expanding on their post. Please add your peer’s name in your response to their post. Your response is due every Sunday at 11:59 pm. Each reply must be 100 to 150 words to be substantive. Posts like “I agree,” or “Great post” are nice, good-will posts, but they do not count as a graded post. Note: Plagiarism is a violation of the honor code – recycling information from current or previous students will result in a failing grade.
