How did politics and the political system under which Americans lived change from colonization to 1865? Be sure to discuss colonial relations
This essay asks you to consider topics and themes we have discussed over the course of the semester and how they have changed over time. Choose one of the following questions to address. You will need to provide not only a generalized idea of how/what the changes have been, but also include specific examples to back up or otherwise illustrate the points you are trying to make. Essays lacking in specific detail and examples will not earn full points.
Here are the questions from which you will select one:
1. How did politics and the political system under which Americans lived change from colonization to 1865? Be sure to discuss colonial relations with Britain, the Revolution, the years of the Early Republic including the writing of the Constitution, and the development of the American political system and its parties up until the time of the Civil War. You will also want to consider rights of the people.
2. Religion played an integral role in the lives of the Americans we have studied this semester, from colonization to 1865. Discuss how religion motivated people to seek change (political, social, or cultural) during this time period, providing specific examples of the importance of religion to people we have studied. Be sure to include colonization, the Revolution, the Market Revolution, westward expansion, slavery, and the rise of anti-slavery sentiments in your essay.
Format: Your essay should be at least 3-5 pages in length (1500-2000 words), double-spaced, and contain standard Word margins. Proper grammar and spelling are required. Your essay must contain an introductory paragraph with a thesis statement, separate supporting paragraphs (the body of the paper), and a short conclusion
