For this journal assignment, reflect on whether or not you can be wrong. I say this not in a personal sense — i.e. wrong in a debate, etc. — but rather in an academic sense. Humility is central to research. We approach the research process with certain preconceived biases that influence our approach and the conclusions we draw. It’s difficult to abandon those biases, but it’s even more difficult to put them aside to accept the fact that we might be wrong. For example: if you have an answer to your research question in mind but it turns out to be false, the research shows that it is demonstrably false, what should you do? I also want you to think broader about such humility in society too. Is there a deficit of this? Do we always have to be right?
