For your paper, I would like you to research and report on some current event which can be understood using material from chapter 6-9. I recommend that throughout the course, you check Google News, Bloomberg News, Wall Street Journal, even Twitter for news reports about important economic stories. Be careful with Twitter as there are many fakeouts there. But it is a really good way to see what people are worried and talking about. Then you can go to the more reputable sources to see if the info is real or not.
Find some topic that interests you and write a paper following this exact outline. Do not stray from this structure as it makes it easy for me to grade and it helps you not get off topic.
In the first paragraph, explain the topic and what people are writing about it. What is going on? (2-3 sentences)
In the next paragraph, discuss what we learned in our class that directly helps you understand the policy (length depends on how detailed you are. But no more than 8 sentences). Note: you should stick to WHAT WE LEARNED IN THE TEXT.
In the next paragraphs, discuss why you found it interesting and add at least one new thought. Hopefully it’s original, but it’s ok to use other people’s ideas as long as you attribute them to the original author. So you might add your own thought here, based on your new understanding of macro, or you might bring in someone else’s thought and build on that, or you might explore the implications of your article on something of interest.
Overall, your paper will have EXACTLY 3 PARTS, written in the exact order I’ve outlined here.
