Corporate Culture in Outsourcing Labor
Kevin Beckett, the newly appointed third generation CEO of R. W. Beckett Corporation, has a difficult decision. Company profit margins are decreasing. He must act to save the business his grandfather started back in 1937 (Cafferky, 2012, p. 594). He is considering outsourcing the company’s most valuable asset, their employees. After the death of his grandfather and tragic factory fire, Kevin’s dad and former CEO, John, decided as any Christian, to seek after the Lord’s will. John, began managing the company with strong Christian values of integrity, excellence, and respect for the individual (Cafferky, 2012, p. 596). If Kevin decided to outsource its labor force the company will likely loss sight of these values put into place by Kevin’s father. Integrity would be lost as the trust of the employee and management relationship would seize to exist. Excellence would decrease as the hiring of unskilled labors and cultural differences between China and the United States. All respect for the individual would be no more as the company gave the layoff notices to the workers in the United States factory. By moving the labor to China the company is telling their employees their years of hard work was indispensable and unappreciated. This decision to outsource the company is being made based on money; not on Christian love for one another as in John 13:35. Outsourcing has led to workers being forced into long working days and less-pay than once promised (Rahim, Tajuddin, Abu Bakar, & Abdul Rahim, 2015, p. 8). Outsourcing is an opportunity for manipulation to breed among the uneducated and unskilled. The company’s culture would be no more, yet replaced with greed, discussed, and anger.
