Carefully record your observations, using actual words of children and descriptive words (what you saw). Remember to use objective language. A person reading your observation should be able to mentally see what the child is doing during the observation.
Consider the following as you observe and record:
What are the children doing?
Describe the setting and interactions taking place.
What are the adults in the area doing?
What do the children seem to be exploring in their play?
What topics, materials, concepts, or ideas appear to be catching their interest
What are some actual language samples? Record the exact words and pronunciation (how they are saying it) of the children’s comments and conversations.
