Urie Bronfenbrenner is one of the famous psychologists who came up with a theory that explains the different types of environment that a child grows up in. In this paper, the environments are presented in relation to my development as a child. Each stage gives a clear explanation as well as an example of its effect to a child’s development. The at-risk tree is also explained briefly on some of its effects on the growth and development of a child. This tree affects the youth more than younger and elder people. With the two theories combined, they provide a clear picture of different types of development in children. It is clear that the environment plays the biggest role in the behavior and development of a child.
According to Martin et al., development is a result of interconnected and embedded ecological systems. This can be proven by the Urie Bronfenbrenner ecological model. He is one of the famous psychologists who came up with a theory that states that the growth and development of a child is determined by the environment where the child comes from. Bronfenbrenner’s theory helps us understand why we might all behave differently when in different, for instance, in school and at home. The environments, as stated by Bronfenbrenner are the microsystem, mesosystem, exosystem, the macrosystem, and chronosystem (Martin, Fabes, & Fabes, 2009). From a look at my development, I think I can relate it to the Bronfenbrenner ecological theory.
The first stage of microsystem involves the environment that I associate with everyday. These are classmates, teachers, friends, and neighbors who have a direct contact with me. These are the people I get to share my life and also belong to my social circle. I have always felt comfortable in their presence. It also involves my social life and social agents (Mc Whirter et al, 2013). Together with these people, it is easy to draw a social line that is different from other neighborhoods.
