WHO AM I? That is a rather difficult question that can’t be summed up in a few words, unless you want my outside appearance. Summed up in a few words, unless you want my outside appearance. I am a African-American male, I am 5’10, i’m not fat, but I’m not skinny. My eyes are brown, while all of these things are true that is only the surface of my character. That is how society views me. The personal in depth me goes deeper than what my outer appearance could ever tell. Back to the real question who am I? I am Sean Ringgold Born last of three, raise in west Philadelphia with a Catholic educational background from kindergarten to 12th grade even though I myself am not Catholic. I played football, ran track ,I very well knowledgeable in photoshop and a list of other things. But wait that was what I told you at the beginning of my sociology class which is nice to know on a personal level, but it tells absolutely nothing about my life chances.

Let me begin again I am a African American male who grew up spending all of his life up to this point in West Philadelphia Pennsylvania. Growing up in West Philadelphia wasn’t exactly a suburban area, with that being said my mother made me attend a catholic school from kindergarten to when I graduated from West Catholic Prep. I knew my mom didn’t want me to attend a public school but little did I know how my sociological imagination would be shaping as a result of that decision. The social culture that I was submerged in greatly separated me from the outside world and what I would have known if I was on the other spectrum attending a public school. I grew up in the he middle class and not the high end either but that one decision not only determined my social location being how I had to travel out of my neighborhood for high school but also increased my life chances. As far as networking developing new skills and trades. Going to a catholic school for 13 years I found the norms and subculture to be part of my own and for it to be normal until I talked to some of my friends that attended public schools and they didn’t know about religion that is when I realized that we know. Growing up just a bit higher than poor I knew that I wouldn’t be given anything that I would have to make my opportunities and take my opportunities as they came to me and make the best of them. As my semester comes to a end along with my sociology class I can say I’ve learned a lot. Even after putting my life in perspective through the social Lens I can see how my life up to this point has been affected do to the choices and decisions that have been made. Sociology
