Being well-versed in special education laws and guidelines related to the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA)
Being well-versed in special education laws and guidelines related to the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) is essential for a school administrator. It is imperative that students with disabilities receive an appropriate education and that all teachers adhere to each child’s Individual Education Plan (IEP), 504 plan, and/or behavioral plans.
Read each of the scenarios in the “Topic 4 Case Studies.” For each scenario write 250-500 words addressing the following:
- Who are the stakeholders involved in the case and what is the issue to be resolved from the perspective of each stakeholder?
- What additional information could each stakeholder provide to you that would assist in making decisions?
- What components of IDEA, IEP, 504, or other education laws apply to the scenario?
- What are 2-3 talking points or possible resolutions each stakeholder might advocate to meet the student’s needs?
- What do you see as the best resolution to the scenario and why?
In addition, write a 250-300 word reflection on the following:
- Provide two reasons why applying discernment in the ethical decision-making process, utilizing practical wisdom, and research-based best practices is in the interest of all stakeholders.
- Explain why it is the role of an administrator to advocate for a positive school ethos by creating equitable opportunities and fostering supportive environments to nurture relationships among all stakeholders.
Cite the case as appropriate and include 2-3 additional resources to support your findings.
While APA Style format is not required for this assignment, solid academic writing is expected, and in-text citations and references should be presented using documentation guidelines, which can be found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center.
