Students will access the assignment by clicking the link below. Questions on this Case Study will ask the students to describe either a hypothetical individual or provide some details of someone they currently work with (students are encouraged to use the individual identified in the SPCE 610 FBA assignment, but are not required to do so). Students may use their textbook and notes when generating their responses, but should phrase answers in their own words and utilize citations for their work. There is no time-limit to complete this assignment (students may open and close the assignment, but responses will NOT save in between working sessions).

Students in this Case Study will be asked the following questions:

  1. State your Commitment Statement from Module 1.
  2. Provide a list of prevention/antecedent interventions to implement in the clinical/training environment (refer back to Learning Activity 1).
  3. Provide a brief summary of the assessment findings from Case Study 1. If your instructor provided any feedback in your presentation, please address those comments here. This response should include your Case Conceptualization, Assessment Results, Operational Definitions of Challenging Behaviors (with examples and non-examples), and Operational Definitions of Replacement Behaviors (with examples and non-examples).
  4. Based on the function of the challenging behavior, topography, and the environment in which it occurs, please summarize an empirical article that summarizes the use of differential reinforcement or extinction with a similar population. You are welcome to refer to your Annotated Bibliography and report on an article you found for this response. Provide the APA reference of the article below.
  5. Provide a protocol describing some form of Differential Reinforcement (DRO, DRA, DRH, DRL, etc) with the individual described above. This intervention should describe the promotion of your replacement behavior identified above. Explain why this behavior is functionally equivalent to the challenging behavior.
  6. Provide a protocol on how staff, support personnel, or family should react if challenging behavior occurs. If using extinction, provide a justification as to why. Hint: be very clear as to when extinction is initiated versus when it is discontinued.
  7. Refer back to your Commitment Statement and the protocols described in this assignment. Comment as to why or why not these protocols are in alignment with your commitment to deliver effective, ethical, and culturally responsive behavioral interventions.

COMMITMENT STATEMENT- As a behavior analyst, I commit to utilizing effective, evidence-based strategies that are grounded in ethical standards to support individuals with autism spectrum disorder and other neurodiverse populations. I will design interventions that consider the vulnerability of the individuals served, promoting their autonomy and safety. I will actively incorporate cultural competence into my practice, ensuring interventions are tailored to respect the diverse backgrounds of each client. While I prioritize positive reinforcement strategies, I will only consider the use of aversive in situations where all other evidence-based methods have been exhausted and client safety is at risk.
