Many people watch the news and run with it. If it’s on the news, it must be true and real…right? Well…not necessarily. My undergraduate degree is in broadcasting from GSU. I enjoyed a career in the media industry for years and let’s just say, you really can’t believe everything you see.

When we watch the news as Critical Thinkers, we are no longer consumers of the news. We are assessors of the news instead, because we examine it through a Critical Lens. We realize that the news is not meant for us to take it and run with it. It is actually our cue to lean into our critical thinking even more.

With that said, I want you to go to a news website that you RESPECT. If you don’t respect any of them, this will be even easier for you, so just pick one you don’t respect and focus on ONE news article or news videoTry to find at least TWO or more fallacies we’ve explored so far that stand out to you in that article or video clip.

Here’s what you need to do:

  • Provide me ONE working link to the video or article.
  • Provide the fallacies BY NAME that stood out to you in that video or article.
  • Explain how each fallacy was displayed in your article or video clip.
