Write a 1000 – 1200 word essay on one of the following recent discoveries in AI. Explore the concepts that are the foundation to these discoveries, how they work, and any future implications behind them.
- Autonomous vehicles or self-driving cars are already a reality in some cities around the world. What was the reason behind this invention? What software logic and hardware are needed to allow these cars to drive without hitting pedestrians or other vehicles? What legislation had to be passed to allow these cars on the road? Are there any moral issues?
- Language models, like GPT-2, make it possible for computers to write sentences, essays and maybe even novels. What were the humble beginnings of this technology? What algorithm is used to achieve this? What could we use this type of AI for in the future?
- Deep learning is a subset of machine learning that utilizes layered artificial neural networks. In a sense, the goal is to create an artificial brain that can think on its own. What are some of the reasons deep learning is now possible when it wasn’t before? How does deep learning work? What applications can this be applied to in the future? Are there any risks?
No matter which discovery you chose, address the foundation of the discovery, the basics of how it works, and argue for 2-3 future implications. You must conduct outside research and properly cite your articles for this assignment.
