A.Claim: Dead neutrons are the primary cause of ‘Alzheimer’s disease.

1. Data: According to Jin (2015), toxic proteins found in the brain affect nerve cells, and this ultimately leads to neuron death and hence reduced brain functions.

2. Warrant: Toxic proteins kill brain cells, and this limits the abilities of the brain, such as memory, and hence the patient starts to experience memory loss.

B. Claim: Forgetfulness is a manifestation of Alzheimer’s disease.

1. Data: Holland et al. (2012) assert that old age predisposes a person to ‘Alzheimer’s disease.

2. Warrant: Old age is widely documented as a risk factor for Alzheimer’s disease, and with an increasing number of baby boomers being in 65 years and above, the number of patients who have Alzheimer’s will increase.

B. Claim: The presence of family members who have had ‘Alzheimer’s disease increases the chances of suffering from the disease.

1. Data: Sun et al. (2017) say that there have been discoveries that genetics influence the pathogenesis of Alzheimer’s.

2. Warrant: The discovery of genes that influence the pathogenesis of Alzheimer’s shows that having a family member who has suffered from the disease increases the chances of a person suffering from the condition.

Internal review: I have discussed age and genetics as factors that predispose a person to Alzheimer’s disease. On age, I have stated that older people who are above 65 years have high chances of suffering from the condition and on genetics, I have stated that having a family member who has suffered from the condition increases the chances of suffering from the disease.

2. Warrant: The hospitalization of Alzheimer patients increases the financial burden for individuals and families since Medicaid and Medicare do not always cover all the costs of treatment.

B. Claim: The caregivers for the patients are also emotionally stressed since they have to deal with people with dysfunctional memory.
