When studying Africa the tendency is to focus on Egypt, one of the first world civilizations. However, the recent archaeological evidence seems to indicate that agriculture may have originated to the south, in Kush or Nubia. At the same time that Egypt and Nubia were becoming increasingly complex societies, groups in sub-Saharan Africa were moving throughout that part of the continent. The migration of the Bantu-speaking peoples and other agricultural societies resulted in the spread of agricultural technology and iron-metallurgy throughout sub-Saharan Africa. Their impact on the development of African civilizations and contributions will be as significant and far-reaching as those made by Egypt
