Ms. Douglas, a first grade teacher, expects children not to socialize with other children during class time.  After all, there is so much to learn and so little time!  Recess is rare because the principal doesn’t support a schedule that prioritizes free play.  The kids only have 30 minutes at lunch and after standing in line, it is more like 20 minutes, so the lunch ladies encourage them NOT to talk and to eat so they can finish their lunch.

What would Vygotsky think about this practice?  Do you support or disagree with Vygotsky’s stance on this?  Why?
