Write an essay in which you explore implications of Hobbes’s view of the “social contract,” discussed in Chapter 4 of Introduction to Philosophy:Ethics.

You should explain Hobbes’s basic argument for the contract and then try to apply his approach to address an issue (for you to identify) in one of the following areas:

Self-defense

Gun control

War (choose an example)

Explain what position you would expect Hobbes to take on the issue you present, and why. This may require explaining Hobbes’s understanding of the social contract.
