What were some of the causes of WWI? What was America’s role in the beginnings of the war?
There are 10 terms on this study guide. There will NOT be 10 on the exam – there will only be 5
for you to answer, and these will be chosen randomly from a pool. For each of these terms, you will
need to write a short answer describing the term. They will be worth 8 points each, and will need to
consist of an approximate date and three facts about the term. For example, if you were writing about
George Washington I would expect something along the lines of:
“George Washington lived during the late 1700s. He was the commander in chief of the
Revolutionary Army. He was also the first President of the United States. He earned a good reputation
and military skills while fighting against France in the Seven Years’ War in the 1760s.”

Essay questions
Out of the 2 essay questions found here, only 1 will appear on the exam – again, chosen
randomly from a pool. It will be worth 40 points. Remember, when writing your essay, please provide at
least 5 paragraphs. Remember to also answer EVERY question raised in each particular subject. For
example, if you end up writing about World War I, please don’t forget to answer “Why did America join
the war?” In addition, don’t forget – this is an ESSAY, meaning I expect full sentences and paragraphs.
You will lose points if you only use a single sentence to answer each part of the question. I recommend
offering at least a paragraph for every question.
