Chapter 11 of the text begins by addressing the importance of word choice when creating reports and proposals. Something as simple as decreasing the usage of pronouns can increase the perceived formality of the work. Due to the nature of wikis, there is an opportunity for disagreements to rise amongst editors. The book points attention to how such disagreements can actually be constructive if done correctly. When including visuals in a report, care should be taken to ensure that they are not erroneous. Failure to do so can be as costly as errors in text. When distributing a report or proposal to an audience, it is important to understand what form of communication is most desired by the audience. (Bovee, 2019)
Chapter 12 recommends keeping presentations as short as possible, in hopes of keeping the audience’s attention. In the closing portion of a presentation, it is important to include some form of call to action. The text say that transitions should be used sparingly. After completing a presentation, it is crucial that the presenting of it is practiced thoroughly. The text discusses the importance of coming to terms with nervousness when presenting. Suppressing such feelings can have malicious effects on a presentation. (Bovee, 2019)

Treasure opens his presentation by discussing seven common habits that weaken our communication. These seven habits are gossip, judging, negativity, complaining, excuses, lying and dogmatism. Treasure spends time discussing these things as well as their specific impacts on our communication. He then moves to discussing four items that can be incorporated into our communication to strengthen it. These are honesty, authenticity, integrity and love. When speaking about each of these, Treasure describes the ways in which these can be powerful in communicating. Lastly, Treasure discusses physical aspects of your voice that affect the success of your vocal messages. These 6 elements are what he refers to as register, timbre, prosody, pace, pitch and volume. With each element he provides examples of how these physical components of voice can drastically affect a message.

Chapter 11
Chapter 11 takes a dive into the writing and completion of writing a report and a proposal. In the world of business wiring, these correctly will allow for your ideas to be implemented in your organization. A challenging part for me about some of the reports I have written is finding a balance between the writing and the illustrations that are put to add value to them. When I think of effective visuals what always comes to mind is charts and graphs but there are so many more visuals that could add that same level of effectiveness. If used correctly in a consistent and simple manner it can turn a good proposal into a great one.
Chapter 12
The concept of developing a business presentation when done in an effective way adds a different level to the information that is being talked about. The delivery is something that I have always pondered on what aspects really make a presentation effective or not. The most common problem in my mind is that people are nervous to present in front of an audience. I personally do not have any type of nervousness when I present so I have always been curious about the best ways to overcome this issue. The text discusses some tips such as practice and breathing which I also find to be helpful to me when I give presentations.

When listening to this TedTalk I began to look at my communication processes and how I used these “sins” when I speak. As I sit here writing this discussion post I realized that not even 20 minutes before I sat down I was gossiping about a person who I used to play hockey with. Furthermore, we began to talk so negatively about some of the time we had playing hockey. It amazed me how quickly this conversation went from the great times to the bad. This TedTalk very much opened my eyes to how easy it is to slip into these “sins.” Looking back at how you speak and avoiding these ideals will make you a better communicator.
