Change management process
Change Agents (Professor)
Class: This discussion of change agents in our material this week has reminded me of some periods of change I went through with different organizations, and how each organization approached change.
With that in mind, I am curious to know others experiences with change management and change agents in our work histories.
· How many of us have been through a change management process?
· How many of us have a firsthand experience interacting closely with change agents in our organizations?
· How many of us have been in that role, working as a champion for change in our organizations?
· Finally, what lessons regarding change have we learned from these experiences?
The biggest lesson I have learned is to find a benefit to champion for the change that is occurring. People, when they can see the benefit behind the change, are much less prone to resistance.
#5 Importance of Communication (Student)
I do believe that effective communication is a fundamental concept for any organization to meet its intended goals. The various departments are interrelated and interdependent and have their links facilitated by communication. Poor communication compromises efficiency, quality of production, customer relations and many other dynamics that an organization depends on to thrive. Effective communication should trickle down from managers to those under their supervision and to other units and departments. An effective manager therefore needs very good communication skills. Managers should be able to identify and remove barriers that interfere with effective communication. They may seem insignificant and non-consequential but when there are interruptions, lack of attentiveness, premature conclusions, there will be a hindrance in communication. To observe good communication, one needs to be conscious about how they present themselves in the workplace.
#6 Creating a Common Language (Professor)
Knowing how to communicate and teaching your subordinates the relevance of effective communication can help your organization run as a well-oiled machine. Everyone being on the same page, reduces error and increases productivity. It is also important that managers allow for employees to convey their concerns with always knowing the solution to the problem, that’s why the manager is the manager. Open flow of communication keep dialogue fluent and knowing that they can come to a manager or leader with a problem without ridicule or some with a condescending demeanor creates an environment of pride instead of contempt; which helps increase buy-in.
