Development of the vision and mission statements

Mission and vision statements  (Professor)

Dasha: The vision should give employees a sense that growth is applicable goal in the organization. Well developed visions can allow a company to establish benchmarks, goals and objectives that feed into the whole strategic process. Engaging the vision from this regard lends to expansiveness, prosperity and sustainability. The vision should draw prospective employees with the desire to contribute what they have to offer to help the company achieve its ultimate purpose. Nonetheless, we must keep in mind that the mission is a working statement that relates the immediate desires of the company. Having a mission that is embraced by the employees adds to the moral fortitude of the workplace.

All: Who do you think should contribute to the development of the vision and mission statements for an entity? Do you think they can evolve over time?

#6 Most Important Mission Statement Factors (Student)

As far as mission statements go, there are nine factors or components to consider: customers, products or services, markets, technology, (survival, growth, and profitability), philosophy, self-concept, public image, and employees.  I think out of these components, even though they are all important, I feel like an organization’s customers, philosophy, and public image play a major role in their success.  An organization needs to show that they are there for the customers and give them a good sense of their philosophy.  I think that if customers can agree to the philosophies presented by an organization, they will be more willing to do business with them.  Public image also plays a role and you want to do business with a respected organization versus with one that is always in the media for negative statements or actions.

#7 Components (Student)

There are many factors that go into the strategic plan of a business. Two of the most important elements are the vision and mission statements. The vision and mission statements hold the key to what is most important to the business as a whole, such as the direction that the company is going, as well as the expectations of the standards that the company is wanting to portray to the customers, and shareholders. Successful businesses should have high expectations of not only the managers, but also of the employees that the company employs. The vision and mission statements exemplify the high customer service expectations and values that a business should uphold. What are your thoughts?

#8 Message expanded. Message read Can an organization have a successful strategic plan without effective mission and vision statements (Student)

I think that many organizations can still have a successful strategic plan without mission and vision statements.  As the chapter mentioned, there are many organizations that have succeeded without them.  However,  the chapter also stated that some of these organizations are now coming up with both mission and vision statements.  I personally think that it is important for organizations to develop mission and vision statements to clearly state their goals and intentions.  I also think that they should hire employees that truly believe in these statements, and that they will also revisit these statements frequently to make sure everyone is on the same page with the direction of the organization.
