My classmate’s post is: This paper did a good job explaining the degree of support to parents affect the marital satisfaction of middle-aged couples. One of the findings was that couples with more living parents provided less support than couples with fewer living parents. This result made sense in that given limited resources, there is a limit to how much the couples can provide help to their parents, and when there are more people to take care of, the greater the strain on the couples’ resources. Lee and other scholars also found that disparities in support for parents significant effects on marital satisfaction. When the wives’ involvement is greater than husbands’, husbands have greater marital satisfaction than wives. Likewise, when the wives’ involvement is less than husbands’, wives are more satisfied with the marriage than husbands. This finding made sense when I tried applying to my own family. I believe my father’s involvement in much greater than my mother’s, primarily because he is the oldest son in his family, and so my mother is often less satisfied when too much money and time is spent and prioritized over our own family matters.
