Write a 2 to 3 page paper (not including references) in which you reflect upon your experience of viewing the film WIT ( available Hulu or HBO)especially the final scenes.
Before writing your paper you should watch the entire film and complete the following reading:
Cockerham, Chapters 7 – 12
Groupman, “How Doctors Think” (on Blackboard)
Hyden, “Illness and Narrative” (on Blackboard)
Leith & Mullings, Chapters 1 – 8
For your paper, begin by describing how you felt watching the film. Were there scenes that made you sad, uncomfortable, angry? Did you identify with any of the characters? Did watching this film remind you of any experiences you or comeone close to you has had with medical care?
Next, identify things in the film that illustrate the following issues discussed by Cockerham:
1) The sick role
2) Medicalization
3) Models of Interaction
Lastly, write a brief intersectional analysis describing how are race, class and gender impact the roles of the characters. Who has power and how is this expressed?
Begin with a thesis statement — your main argument or the purpose of your essay.
You should briefly summarize any scene you are referencing. Be sure to present a critical, thoughtful perspective. Do not fill the essay with retelling of the film.
Discuss what you believe is interesting, problematic, or important about the issue you are exploring.
Use proper citations.
