Susan Farrell has written an article called “Fight vs. Flight: A Re-Evaluation of Dee in Alice Walker’s ‘Everyday Use.’  In this article, Farrell states the usual “take” on Dee is too harsh, mainly because Dee’s arrogance and haughtiness are revealed to the reader by Mama, who may not be the most reliable narrator.
