Readings: Chilisa, B. (2020). Indigenous research methodologies. (2nd Ed.). Sage. Chapter 2, “Research Paradigms,” pp. 18-34 and 47-49, and Chapter 14, “Building Partnerships and Integrating Knowledge Systems.”  (both attached)

The purpose of this assignment is to facilitate your development as a reflective practitioner by encouraging reflection beyond the classroom and promoting conscious integration of individual experiences, personal and professional values, work in the field, and prior and current academic learning. For this assignment you will keep a journal, making weekly dated entries throughout the semester, with each week considering the time period between one live session and the following one. Journal entries should include your thoughts about how the  course readings, resources, and discussions inform your professional development, learning and identity.

Prompt:

During the week, reflect on the ideas raised in the seminar, from the week’s readings, resources, and class discussion. Your journal should address the following:

Discuss the ways in which a postcolonial indigenous research paradigm is characterized by relational understandings of reality, knowledge and values.

What are some important considerations in building relationships and partnerships for conducting postcolonial indigenous research?

Reflection: Discuss any idea raised in the course in relationship to one or more of the following:(Note: Each entry will not cover all of these areas, but all should be considered over the course of the semester).

Insights: Your insights related to the issues raised in this seminar, from the week’s readings, resources or class discussion

Learning: Learning in other past or current courses

Field Practicum: Your practice experiences in the field

Values: Your personal and professional values and professional development

Practice: Your perspective on social work practice

Personal Awareness: Your awareness of the impact of your own experiences, feelings, and coping on learning and practice

Entries should be  1-2-pages long double-spaced. Research is not necessary as this is a reflective assignment, requiring careful conceptual thought, openness to considering new perspectives, and self-awareness. (However, if an author’s work is cited, it should be appropriately referenced.)
