Epithelium Tissue
You will be responding to a paragraph for a discussion board. It should not be opinionated. It should be factual and cited, APA format. 250 word minimum. All resources must be cited.
Label each section according to the following that might apply to your topic:
RESEARCH
- *The explanation / background of the topic- Teach the topic to students. Break it down. (*Everyone must do this part). Include the Structure and Function relationship in the body Important. Interesting and current research on the topic.
- Examples to clarify and teach. (Important!) (Your own examples can be critical thinking too.)
CRITICAL THINKING:
- Tips and Tricks for Remembering and Recalling. Is there a mnemonic device that might help you memorize this information or what helps you understand this?
- Connect the dots Use critical thinking. Draw your own conclusions from the research. Why is this an important topic? How does it relate to other concepts in the text? Use your own words and thoughts here.
Below is the paragraph you will be responding to:
Epithelium is one of four types of animal tissue. These tissues line the outer surface of the organs and blood vessels in the body. Epithelia are divided into two categories: simple and stratified. Each of those categories is made up of four ‘types’.
Simple epithelia are made up of four types, as follows: simple squamous, simple cuboidal, simple columnar, and pseudostratified columnar. ”(Saladin 2018 p. 143). The first three types are named for their cells’ shape whereas the fourth type (pseudostratified columnar) is named based on the fact that not all of the cells reach the surface. “These cells produce protective mucus coating over the mucus membranes”(Saladin 2018 p.144 ).
“Stratified epithelia range from 2 to 20 or more layers of cells” (Saladin 2018 p. 146). The four types of stratified epithelia are as follows: stratified squamous, stratified cuboidal, stratified columnar epithelia, and transitional epithelia. Stratified columnar are rare and only seen where two other epithelial types meet. Stratified squamous epithelia are the most widespread epithelia in the human body, these cells are also divided into two groups: keratinized and non-keratinized. “The function of the stratified squamous is to resist abrasion and penetration by pathogenic organisms and to hinder water loss through skin”(Saladin 2018 p. 148). The function of the Stratified cuboidal epithelial is to stretch and prevent osmotic damage from urine.

Solution PreviewThey are thin tissues that provide a protective cover to the exposed parts of the body. They form part of the external skin, the digestive tract, the secretory glands and the hollow lining of all body organs such as the lungs, the spinal cord, the heart and the ears and eyes…………………………………..
